"Lev LaShovim" is a program of Jewish outreach for immigrants from the former Soviet Union. It provides an introduction to Torah and an opportunity to deepen one's knowledge for those who are interested in regular studies in Russian. The project is directed first of all to people ages 15 to 50. That's exactly the age when people are still capable of changing themselves, when they look for answers to existential questions, when they search for spirituality. There are also separate lessons for children and pensioners. We offer:
- Torah studies - (generally, in Russian) in different cities and towns for different ages and different levels. There are also classes in Hebrew for facilitation of spiritual absorption of immigrants into the Jewish Tradition. Many classes are organized in private homes, so that people are free to come without any restrictions in dress or commitment to regular attendance.
- Chavrusos - individual studies in pairs with the best of
Russian-speaking teachers, usually organized within the framework
of
evening collels. Through such sessions students have an
opportunity to
become
stronger in Torah learning and mitzvah observance, and in the future
to become part of a religious community.
- Shabbos and holidays - invitations to religious families for Shabbos and holiday meals, Passover Seder etc.
- Brisos - for babies & adults; organization of pidion ha-ben.
- Chuppahs - Jewish weddings for those who are going to marry and for those who have been married by civil marriage; education for the grooms and brides, etc.
- Distribution of books, audio-cassettes, tefillin and other attributes of Tradition.
- Referral to religious educational institutions.
